My Dream in a Shoebox tours school kids to Museo Pambata

One thing that can separate underprivileged children from everyone else is opportunity. Opportunity to eat healthy food, wear clean clothes, or given quality education. Because they do not have access to these basic essentials, disadvantaged children grow up losing any hope that their dreams could become reality.

For the past ten years, My Dream in a Shoebox, the home-grown advocacy of integrated marketing communications firm TeamAsia, has been on the move to make #BiggerDreams come true. In 2018, MDIAS dared to reach even higher and extended its advocacy from giving shoeboxes filled with school supplies to providing other educational needs and giving immersive experiences that accords them inspiration and reason to dream. To start, we took school children from Payatas Orione Foundation (PAOFI) to Museo Pambata to spark inspiration and give a glimpse of what they can do and who they can become in the future.

“It is very important that we immerse the children in as many possible opportunities they can have in the future. We hope that once they see and experience the possibilities, they would be inspired to pursue their dream profession.” said Clah Salindato, My Dream in a Shoebox’s Head Dream Builder.

Prior to the museum tour, the children wrote their dreams on a personal dream map, and it showed how their aspirations were bound by the usual professions they know. After the immersive experience, they revisited their dream maps and wrote new careers that sparked inspiration.

“We all dream of that world where children are given the opportunity to dream big and actually realize them,” Salindato shared. “We are happy to know that we are not alone in this journey, as we have long-time and new partner organizations and individuals that help us make our vision come true. With everybody’s help, we can make their bigger dreams a reality.”
